GREETINGS FROM DAN
March 2012

I’m on the road a bit this month with Ann Reed and friends, touring Minnesota with her enlightening and uplifting show “Heroes: A celebration of women who changed history and changed our lives.” I’m the token guy in this great cast: Leslie Ball, Aimee Bryant, Joan Griffith, Thomasina Petrus and Denise Tabet. Plus a different community choir in each town. Check out Ann’s page for details.

The annual sing-along benefit for the Camden Music School is coming up Friday April 20. This year’s theme: the Brill Building, the great pop music melting pot of the late '50s and early '60s where brilliant songwriters shared cubicles, heard and stole each other's stuff and pulled together white, black and Latino sounds to create the biggest hits of the pre-Beatles era.

“Once Upon a River” is a mostly annual Earth Day show I host at the Festival Theater in St. Croix Falls WI. This year’s show features stories and songs from farmers, poets, paddlers and musicians of the community, plus special guest Peter Ostroushko on fiddle and mando. With a sing-along to follow across the street overlooking the St. Croix, weather permitting.

P. G. Wodehouse was indeed a writer of comedic novels, but he was also a prolific lyricist in the early days of Broadway musicals. Maria Jette and I are presenting a FREE concert on Tuesday March 27 to mark the local release of our CD, “In Our Little Paradise: The Songs of P. G. Wodehouse.” Cozy up to a drink in the 1920s splendor of the lounge at the Woman’s Club of Minneapolis, take in the view over Loring Park and maybe take home a CD or two.
